Education

Safe Women Culture

The Education for Rural People (women & girls) Programme aims to increase literacy among rural women, by promoting literacy training aimed at fostering national capacity, and reducing, with the ultimate goal of eliminating, the gender related rural gap in education.

Illiteracy is particularly high among rural girls and women which hinders productivity and health, and limits opportunities to improve livelihoods. Child mortality is also higher among illiterate mothers and is directly correlated to mothers’ years of schooling. In addition, maternal mortality being higher in rural areas also correlates with the literacy rates among the women in these areas being lower.

Delivering literacy education to the pregnant mothers, while they are accommodated and cared for at the MWH, gives them the opportunity to acquire the invaluable skills of reading and writing by the time they leave.
